This website first went online in December of 2007.  Happy Bigfeet was the main motivation for starting a website.  I only had a little bit of an idea of what to do with it.  It’s just kind of developed as time went along.  Making my writing available to the public without going through some corporate monster was the main point of it.  The first thing I added was the Story of the Month.  I thought it would be a fun challenge to write a new short story for the website every month, and it has been.  I shoot for the 1st of every month, but don’t always make it.  The next thing that went on was the music page and the crappy song of the month.  These were done by my high school band, Presance.  We recorded three albums on subpar recording equipment.  I thought it would be fun to present a different one here every month.  These are not horrible songs.  They are just very rough.  We were young and inexperienced, but we were having fun.  How many high school bands write their own music?  The Chicken Chokers ad has been floating around in my head for years.  It developed in my head and just stayed there.  It has never been written down.  It’s amazing that I never forgot it.  I found a cheap recording program and decided to add it to the website, along with the cheesy picture I drew for it.  It became the beginning of the Odds & Ends page.  One of the free programs that came with the website was a blog program.  I decided to try it out, not sure really what I was going to do with it.  I didn’t do much with it at first.  About the same time, I added the Insensitivities page, where I could go off on different subjects.  I started putting the Insensitivities on the blog.  I noticed that it got a much bigger reaction whenever I did that.  I started doing more with the blog until it has become a pretty much daily thing.  It tends to be my reaction to different news items, mostly about celebrities.  The Insensitivities page has gone back to being the separate entity that it was meant to be.  The newest page is the Way Back Machine, where I take a nostalgic look back at different things from the past that had an effect on my life.  The title comes from a cartoon that was before my time, but I have seen it rerun often enough.  I thought it would be a fitting title.  I had originally wanted there to be more new music on here, but that cheap recording program was just that, cheap.  It did not work the way I needed it to in order to do it right.  I have a new program now that works a whole lot better.  Look for new songs to appear on the music page as I have time to get them ready.  Looking at the music page is looking at the evolution of my recording process.  The Presance songs were, of course, recorded on a simple, unforgiving cassette tape recorder.  "Peavey" was recorded on the first recording program that I wasn't too happy with.  It is just an instrumental that was more of an experiment to see how well the program worked.  All of the tracks kind of strayed off from each other and didn't stay where they were supposed to be.  This did not make me happy, so I didn't record any more songs with it.  It was good enough to do much of the recording I did on the odds and ends page.  The Music Maker 16 program that I later purchased works much better.  I recorded "Don't Know," "It's Got a Good Beat" and "Green Eggs and Ham (Sam I Am)" on it.  It is a good program with some nice features on it (it allowed me to do the "Justin Bieber's Gonna Be My Bitch" video), but it still has it's flaws.  The biggest problem is trying to deal with microphone noise on a computer based program.  I will probably still be using this program in the future for different things, but I wanted something better.  I took my income tax return and purchased a 16 track digital recorder.  I can now plug everything directly into it, thus eliminating the noise problem.  "Damaged" is an experiment with the guitar to see how well it sounds.  "Don't Ask Me" is the first song recorded with it.  I think it will work fine.  There will be more to come.  As you have probably noticed, humor is the main force behind nearly everything I do.  Sometimes the songs I write can be a little more serious, though.  Looking at the website now, I can see that it has turned into basically an online magazine.  It has its permanent features that get added to occasionally.  The Story of the Month and the Crappy Song are monthly features.  Insensitivities and the Way Back Machine tend to be changed once a week.  The blog is updated on a nearly daily basis.  If you have any comments on the site or ideas for things you’d like to see in the Way Back Machine, feel free to send an email to comments@myfunnystories.com.  I’ll be glad to hear from you.
